The power of lion, art and fire
My name is Daniel, I am a Slovenian artist with African roots who creates unique portraits with fire in my studio under artistic name Flameous. I am a creative person at heart, a former basketball player and a lover of sports, music and nature, which gives me inspiration for my artistic creation.
I remember from the time of my childhood that I loved to draw and art lesson in school were one of my favorite subjects, where I could express myself and my creativity. It is my love for drawing that helps me relax today, because the life we live today is more and more stressful. When I draw, I feel free, disconnect from my thoughts and I can escape into a world of timelessness.
Through different periods of growing up, as a pure self-taught person, I tried different drawing techniques: with pencil, crayons, felt-tip pen, crayons, pastels, charcoal, etc.. However, none of these techniques took hold of me like the technique of pyrography or drawing with fire, which has a special charm and combines my favorite earthly elements, such as wood and fire.
Pyrography
Around 2018, I learned about a technique called pyrography, which means burning into wood or decorating wood with a heated wire, which can be used to depict a wide variety of motifs on the wooden surface.
Realistic portraits have always been my passion, so I myself wanted to improve my pyrography technique to the extent that my wood-burnt motifs would come to life as much as possible in their realistic image. With my ingenuity and openness to new things, I found a way to polish the portraits even more, so I upgraded the pyrography technique with the technique of burning with a flame, where instead of wire, I now mostly use burners of different sizes, and in addition, I help with the details with a smaller sander and sandpaper.
This is how I created my own technique, which is written on my skin, and I also got confirmation and satisfaction from myself that I, as an artist, am the one who can guide and control the flame and create the most diverse shapes, shadows and structures with it.
Fire can destroy, but it can also create!
One of my main mottos is: Fire can destroy, but it can also create! I believe that everything in life happens for a purpose and sometimes even negative things can lead us to something positive.
People are usually not aware of this at the given moment and usually gives in to negative feelings too quickly. I recognised and accepted this challenge, because in my childhood my house was burned down after a fire, but today we have become “best friends” and with it I create, express myself and it even becomes my source of income. There are a lot of people in this world who hide some special talent inside of the, but, unfortunately, they will never recognise/awaken it.
That’s why I really want to inspired others through my work to find their passion, strength and courage and to follow their dreams.
